This year’s participants are Hannah, Ceire, Michaela, Alannah, Zoe, Abi, and Kiera.
Over 5 days during their Easter holidays, participants are taking place in the 4th annual Teen Directives programme at RHA. This year’s programme runs parallel to the exhibition ‘A Growing Enquiry: Art, Agriculture & reconciling Values’.
Our first week focused on researching themes and materials, including a trip to Uisneach in Co. Westmeath, where we learned about the history, mythology, and archaeology of the sacred site. Themes discussed in the group included motherhood, nature, immersive art, storytelling, collaboration, and more. Participants met lots of people, including artists Maria McKinney and Katie Watchorn, the artist collective Bog Cottage, and staff from Uisneach.
At the end of our first week, participants made a plan for an artwork they will be making in week 2!
We will be launching this at 4pm on Thursday 21st of April, and we invite you all to join us to see what the Teens have made! We are so excited to show you what has emerged from our research and collaboration.

Teen Directives: Field Trip is facilitated by Róisin Bohan and Leah Corbett.
Róisín Bohan is RHA’s Learning and Public Engagement Curator, responsible for running RHA’s learning events, including exhibition related events for the public, and educational programme for kids, families and schools. Since joining the RHA team in 2017, she has initiated programmes for young people including Teen Directives and Young Art Writers, and worked with Art Therapist Andrea Clare Plunkett to introduce Art Therapy into the gallery.
Leah Corbett is an artist and curator from Tipperary. Her practice includes realising exhibitions, facilitating workshops and initiating community-led projects. She is interested in collective action, collaboration and DIY approaches – working both within the gallery context as well as offsite in public and local spaces. She is co-founder of artist-run organisation Muine Bheag Arts in Carlow and former co-director of artist-led organisation Catalyst Arts in Belfast.
Recent projects include: Grass Roots, Muine Bheag Arts, Carlow (2021); Conditions for Growth; büro für kuratorische fürsorge und kollektives experiment, Cologne (2021) and Common or Garden, Catalyst Arts, Belfast (2020).
