The RHA has a long tradition of observational learning and practice that has been sustained throughout the 200 hundred years of its history. Each day during the festival Academicians; Una Sealy RHA, James Hanley RHA and Blaise Smith RHA will make a live portrait in a staged setting in the RHA Gallagher Gallery.
They will work from an antique easel that was used as part of William Orpen’s classes at the RHA School and is indicative of the peer learning that is part of the ethos of the RHA School. A range of fellow contemporary artists both from within and outside the academy have been asked to sit for a portrait each day. This is an opportunity for the visitors to observe how each artist works in a live setting.
