In this two-part workshop held on the 11th and 25th of April, participants will be guided through ways in which to create artist statements and accompanying texts. Led by writer and editor Aidan Kelly Murphy, these workshops will look to provide support in developing writing that succinctly discusses individual projects and wider practices.

In the first workshop, the focus will be on creating concise, clear, and compelling narratives that explain the themes, methods, and motivations present in attendees’ work. This will involve reviewing examples of artist texts and providing tools that will help artists articulate their practice in written form.

The second workshop will take place two weeks later, with participants submitting a text for review ahead of this. This workshop will focus on developing a sustainable writing practice, showcasing approaches that will assist them in applications for grants, exhibitions, and residencies going forward.

These interactive and engaging workshops will utilise a blend of theoretical insight and practical techniques. They are geared towards supporting those who are looking for guidance with artists’ texts, interested in developing a written component to their practice, as well as artists looking for advice in summarising and articulating their practice.
