A one-day masterclass focusing on the study of human anatomy and proportion.

This class focuses on the study of human anatomy and proportions through an in-depth exploration of planar structure. Students will develop the ability to translate three-dimensional forms onto a two-dimensional surface by observing and analysing abstract shapes within the figure. Additionally, students will refine their skills in realism by working with a limited palette, focusing on value and temperature to convey form and mood.

Bio:

Yulia Gasio is a Ukrainian born artist who lives and practices art in California. Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions that include
Ukraine Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Kyiv, Ukraine Cultural Center Los Angeles, Osten Collection Skopje, North Macedonia, and Creative Spark Centre, Dundalk, Ireland. She earned an MA in Art History from California State University Fresno and MFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University Long Beach and also a recipient of multiple awards and scholarships. Yulia is an Assistant Professor teaching Drawing and Painting at California State University Long Beach.

Yulia’s artistic focus centres on the portrayal of the human form. She firmly believes that human figures serve as a direct conduit to sensuousness, intimately tied to our psychology, and are a powerful means of depicting the human condition. In her view, the human figure stands as the most profound and compassionate vehicle for conveying intricate narratives encompassing social, political, and personal dimensions.
