Job Summary
The mission of the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts (RHA Gallery) is to foster the vital relationship between artists and the public in the enjoyment of visual art and in the support of those who make it. The RHA is based at 15 Ely Place, Dublin 2.
The RHA attracts a large audience for its exhibition, education, outreach and School programmes. The RHA now wishes to define and reach out to audiences that are currently unaware of the services it is offering by engaging a Learning and Public Engagement curator whose primary focus will be to target specific audiences.
The initial phase of this position will be to research and identify communities that are not yet engaging with the RHA’s services. The successful candidate will be asked to identify a small number of suitable communities, to develop relationships with those communities and to devise programmes (both in those communities and on-site) to strengthen bonds between those groups and the RHA.
The Learning and Public Engagement Curator will join the RHA curatorial team that consists of the Director, the RHA Registrar, the RHA Curator and RHA’s Head Technician.
This is a part-time position (3 days per week) and will be offered initially as a three-year contract at an annual salary of €21,000.

The successful candidate will have:
- Knowledge of learning, public engagement and participative art practices
- Experience working with a diverse range of communities
- A demonstrable capacity to curate and produce art programmes with a public institution
- Experience of working with artists, particularly in the areas of collaboration, participation or learning environments
- The capacity to work as part of a team or to be self-directed, as necessary
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Excellent administration and project management skills
- Excellent computer literacy
- Ability to work under pressure, and work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a team
Terms & Conditions:
- This position will be based in the RHA offices, 15 Ely Place, Dublin 2
- The post holder will be expected to work a 21-hour week and will be willing to undertake evening and weekend work as necessitated
- Office hours are 10am to 5pm, one hour lunch break
