The Tony and Jane O’Malley Residential Studio Award

Applications have closed for 2023.

The Tony O’Malley Residency, administered by the RHA School, is awarded on an annual basis to an artist who wishes to work primarily in the medium of paint. During his lifetime, Tony O’Malley was the recipient of subsidised studios and accommodation in St. Ives, Cornwall. Administered by the Arts Council of Great Britain, it offered the artist time to concentrate on creating work. Jane O’Malley has never forgotten the privilege of those decades for herself and Tony and in association with the Royal Hibernian Academy, she now wishes to offer this home/studio in Callan to artists on an annual basis.

The O’Malley Residency is being offered for one year from the end of September 2023 to the end of September 2024. The artist who is awarded the residency in Callan, Co. Kilkenny will have the exclusive use of the house and studio at a nominal cost of €300 per month plus utilities. This full-time residency is for artists who work primarily in the medium of paint. The studio is not suitable for sculptors.
