RHA Archivist

The Academy archivist is Dr Éimear O’Connor HRHA. O’Connor holds a BA and PhD from UCD, and a first class honours MBA from DIT.

O'Connor is an art historian and curator specialising in Irish art from 1850-1950, and author and editor of books, articles and reviews of Irish art.

Her biography of former President of the RHA, Seán Keating (1889-1977) (President from 1950 until 1962), entitled Seán Keating: Art, Politics and Building the Irish Nation (Kildare: Irish Academic Press) was published in 2013. She has lectured on Irish, European and American art in cultural institutions and universities at home and abroad, and was elected an honorary member of the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts in 2010.

O’Connor is a Research Associate with TRIARC-Irish Art Research Centre, TCD. Having catalogued the RHA archives in 2010, O’Connor runs the archive on a voluntary basis. The archive is open, strictly by appointment only, one Friday a month during the academic year (February – May). Request for material, citing reference numbers from the PDF, must be sent to the Academy Co-ordinator in advance, after which O’Connor will make contact to arrange an appointment.
