New Works – Father & Child

Mary Kelly

4 Sep, 2009 - 20 Dec, 2009

In this new body of work, the artist was prompted by the ubiquitous imagery of the mother and child in Western Art to look at creating works that deal with the father and child relationship.
The corporeal attachment between a mother and child is fundamentally established during gestation in the woman’s body but how does the male embody his bond with the child? Kelly’s seeking out of individuals who tattooed their bodies with the names and images of their children opens up a range of issues for us to consider.
The RHA Foyer features new work by artists that have had a one-person exhibition at the RHA in the past decade.
