The Fellowship Programme, administrated by the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, enables artists to spend time working in rural Ireland to benefit both the artist and the community. Since 1992, the Foundation has facilitated hundreds of artists, including many Academicians, to come to the small coastal village of Ballycastle, Co. Mayo by providing them with cottages and purpose built studios. Ballinglen Fellows are requested to donate a work of art, made in response to their fellowship, to the Ballinglen Permanent Collection. This collection now contains over 850 artworks and is a record of 30 years of visits by Irish and international artists to Ballinglen. Reflective of the environment, heritage, community and soul of this part of North Mayo, it is a unique and significant collection of art.

The RHA Gallery’s bicentennial celebrations promise to be a highlight of the Irish cultural calendar for 2023 and are not to be missed by anyone with an interest in Irish art and culture! The RHA’s bicentennial year will be marked by a wide range of exciting and historic events including nationwide gatherings, anniversary exhibitions, a commemorative stamp by An Post and a specially commissioned book by Cristín Leach, launched in October.
