We will begin this event in the RHA School at 2pm with a wine and seasonal mince pies reception and then make our way into each studio to view and discuss the work in progress of each of the four artists currently resident in our studios. Here are short biographies of the four artists:
Sadhbh Mowlds is a Dublin based visual artist with a background in glass making that regularly informs her practice. Often drawing from experiences of her internal and external environments, she creates work that considers human consciousness, and society’s effects on it. Balancing between surrealism and hyper-realism, Mowlds works in a variety of materials, most notably silicone, hair and glass, to create body-centric sculptures and installations. Sadhbh is currently exhibiting in the RHA Corner Gallery.
Eileen Leonard Sealy is an artist living and working in Dublin, graduating from NCAD in 2023 with a Degree in Painting. Having previously worked as artist in residence in a natural burial ground in the Netherlands in 2020, and undertaking a research trip to the highlands of Sulawesi, Indonesia, funded by the Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Trust Award, Eileen’s work strives to create visual narratives that forge similarities between commonly isolating human experiences.
Asha Murray is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Ireland. Asha creates experimental films in tandem with wool-tufted sculptures depicting everyday-in-between-moments, alongside the mundane objects we disregard. Concepts of memory, nostalgia, melancholy and consumption are all interwoven throughout her film and textiles.
Lucy Peters graduated from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, in 2022 with a Masters in Art and Research Collaboration. Lucy has a background in the fashion industry. She has become increasingly concerned with the vast volumes of mass-produced clothes that are casually consumed and thrown away. Her exploration of over consumption has encompassed research into the practices of fashion retailers, including those that are closing down, as well as the strategies that have been developed by charities to manage huge warehouses full of discarded, and ultimately worthless, fast fashion clothing.
