Receiving an ACCESS place on a module is highly competitive, and the reason for your application through the ACCESS programme must be fully detailed in your cover letter.

This is a 15-week module that will run from September 2026 to December 2026.

Mentored Painting 1 is scheduled on Thursday afternoons from 2 pm to 5 pm.

The first block of this 15-week term will concentrate on the medium of watercolour, led by Seán Molloy. Molloy will cover techniques employed in master painting from the 19th Century to the present, and students will work directly from observation to create preparatory works or finished studies. Marcel Vidal will work on a five-week block aiming to teach students a specific approach to painting, beginning with an underpainting (Imprimatura) and progressing to a finished painting in oil. Vanessa Jones will lead a final 5-week block of direct observation.

This is a 5-credit module with the RHA School accredited by TU Dublin.

TU DUBLIN ACCREDITATION

The completion of all 10 modules is awarded with a 60-credit Diploma in Painting and Drawing, Technological University Dublin, with an NQF Level 8. There are three exit awards at 30 credits, which are awarded a 30-credit certificate at level 8.

Students can complete all modules over the course of two academic years, or complete separate modules over the course of a number of years. All modules will be subject to the quality assurance and exam regulations of TU Dublin. Please note that students are not required to complete Term 1 courses before applying for Term 2 courses.
