Support RHA School

The RHA School and Studios has achieved much over the last number of years and has grown to have over 140 artists and students accessing our learning programmes and studio space on the third floor of the RHA every week. The RHA School is now accredited by TU Dublin and offers 60 credit diploma.

While much has been achieved to date, we would like to do more for artists and students, to nurture and support emerging talent and to provide quality studio space to work in the city. Specifically, we would like to break down barriers for artists and students to access what we have to offer by providing more scholarships and supported residencies by removing the burden of fees. This directly supports the development of promising artists at a formative time in their development.

We are appealing for donors to support our School and Studios programmes.

We have included testimonials from just some of the students who benefit from their learning experience at RHA School. Our access programme has supported artists from diverse backgrounds and perspectives and we would like, with your support to continue and build upon opening these doors to education and studio space for emerging artists.

Your donation would make a real and tangible difference to the artistic growth of the next generation of artists.

About RHA School and Studios

Established in 1823, the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts was founded by a group of artists committed to rejuvenating the art scene in Ireland. This initiative led to the creation of exhibition spaces and studios where established artists could guide emerging talent.

Today, the RHA School continues its mission to foster artistic expression and celebrate the process of making art. We blend the essence of a traditional studio with the vibrancy of a contemporary art school.

The RHA School is located on the third floor of the RHA Gallery. It features six, north facing, spacious artists studios with four of these available to rent at a subsidised rate, as well as two studios awarded to recipients of the RDS Graduate Award and the Fingal Art Award. There are also two large group studios used for courses, workshops, and masterclasses.

Accreditation

A comprehensive 12-module Diploma in Art focusing on drawing and painting techniques is offered. The course, which currently accommodates 100 students across different modules, is taught by RHA Academicians and guest artists. The student body is diverse, consisting of individuals from varied educational backgrounds as well as practicing artists.

Students earn a Certificate upon completion of 30 credits, and a Diploma in Painting and Drawing upon finishing 60 credits, accredited by TU Dublin. Many graduates go on to pursue further studies at other higher education institutions.

Upon graduating students receive a continuous professional development award for either 30 or 60 credits. These credits are level 8 degree standard on the national framework of qualifications (NFQ) and the equivalent of completing a semester or full year of an undergraduate BA course and are recognised as an EU standard under accreditation by TU Dublin.
