Join artist Pauline Rowan in conversation with writer Suzanne Walsh to discuss Pauline’s current show Under a Vaulted Sky (23 November – 02 February). An extensive body of work, Under a Vaulted Sky, consists of portraits, still lives, and field documentary and is delicately intertwined with Rowans performative responses. The evening will include a walk and talk of the show as well as insights into the parallels between Rowan’s work and Walsh’s poetry and prose.
Pauline Rowan is an Irish visual artist who works predominantly in photography. Works often explore the relationships between cultural, ritualistic symbolism and individual perceptions of reality. Transforming through investigations, and often personal vulnerabilities, she conjures psychological space and offers new potentiality. Utilising photography, participation, performative and material construction she endeavours to communicate the queries of her practice. Projects relate to ritual, motherhood, conflicting experiences of belonging and home.
Rowan was awarded an MFA in Photography with distinction from Ulster University in 2018/19. Nominated by PhotoIreland to FUTURES Photography & also selected by international jury to New Irish Works. Participated in Photo Museum Ireland’s ‘In our Image: Photography & the Social Gaze’.
Suzanne Walsh is an artist and writer working mainly with performance, audio, and text. They also publish essays, art-writing, poetry, and fiction in publications including gorse journal, Fallowmedia, Winter Papers, and Paper Visual Art Journal, as well as commissioned texts for galleries. Their practice has been supported by The Arts Council, Culture Ireland, Fire Station Artist Studios, and Temple Bar Gallery and Studios.
